A Healthy Lake

A Healthy Lake
This contributor to the Voices for the Lake exhibit at ECHO responded to the prompt: Think about a healthy lake, how would you describe it?

When I think about a healthy lake, I think about a body of water and underneath the surface, it is teeming with life of all kinds. This includes bacteria, fish, insects, and many others. It is devoid of trash that will hinder the growth of the habitat. It is also important to have a balanced ecosystem, so that all of the species are provided for and are also contributing in some way. Another key factor that goes into a healthy lake is the runoff. If the runoff into the lake is polluted, this will cause the pH in the lake to be off balance, greatly affecting the ecosystem. This is how I wopuld describe a healthy lake. - Olivia
