Bites

We live on Lake Champlain, on the New York side, in Chazy, NY. Last summer, while raking out aquatic weeds around my boat dock and boat lift, I was bitten several times on both legs by some parasite that I stirred up off the mucky lake bottom. I suspect the bites were from 'spiny fleas' that were imbedded in the muck that I disturbed. A pharmacist suggested I take a variant of Benedryl, which certainly helped but left multiple scars on my legs that took nearly a year to heal.
I'm not that confident about going in the lake again !!
